SAILING ACTIVITIES: JUNIOR SAILING - PROGRAMS

Welcome to Seawanhaka Corinthian Junior Yacht Club Located on Centre Island in Oyster Bay, NY, providing outstanding opportunities for juniors ages four through eighteen on Long Island’s beautiful Gold Coast.

Dear Fellow Members,

Welcome to the 2010 season!  The following pages offer details about the two junior programs that Seawanhaka offers membership.

Camp at Seawanhaka begins its eighth season and provides activities for children age 4 – 10.  The Junior Club begins its seventy-third season
and provides sailing and racing instruction to children age 8 – 18 (participants must reach their eight birthday and not turn nineteen by December 31 st
of thatyear).  Both programs offer premier sailing instruction as well as the opportunity to learn respect for the sea, their friends, and themselves.
Seawanhaka Junior Programs are opened to Members and Non-Members children.

If a member wishes to sponsor a Non-Member they must:
  1. Write a letter of support indicating their wish to sponsor the Non-Member and include that letter with the Application.
  2. The balance of the fees will be billed to the Members account in June.
  3. A members is allowed to Sponsor only two Non-Member families per year.
  4. It is expected that a Member truly know the child and the familyl they are sponsoring since they will be responsible for any debt or bad behavior.
Any questions regarding sponsorship should be relayed to Chairman of the Junior Activities Committee, Mr. Peter Johnson.

All participants enrolled in a Junior Sailing Program must be competent swimmers, comfortable swimming in Oyster Bay.  Sailors are required to wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) while on, in or near the water, docks and beach.  Each sailor must pass a Swim Check Test on their first day of sailing
class.  Boat charter is available on a first come, first serve basis for Optis, Blue Jays, and 420’s only.  The Committee strongly recommends that sailors purchase their own boats.  The pride and responsibility of boat ownership is a powerful life learning lesson.

For more information, please contact Chairman Peter Johnson.

Sincerely,

Junior Activities Committee
