Outlaw Trophy - May 23
The Outlaws were a class of yachts raced in 1916. The Club history book had this to say about them: “At the time of this writing, I can find no description or picture of them, either in Lloyd’s Register, the Club records or minutes, the archives of the New York Yacht Club, or old yachting magazines. No older members remember them.” The Outlaw Trophy was conceived as a cruising class race to a destination on Long Island Sound, with a return race back to Seawanhaka. Each year, the Race Committee and PHRF Racing Committee will determine the destination. In 2015 this series was started with races to Black Rock Yacht Club; in 2019 the race was from SCYC to American Yacht Club.

Junior Senior Challenge - July 4
The Independence Day Challenge Trophy was presented as a memorial to P. James Roosevelt, Commodore of both Seawanhaka Corinthian Junior Yacht Club (SCJYC) and Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club (SCYC). He was the son of Philip J. Roosevelt, Commodore of SCYC and one of the flag officers who established SCJYC. The trophy is a collage of photos of him from his sailing days at both clubs.
The regatta is sailed on the Fourth of July by teams from both the Senior and Junior Clubs in classes currently raced at SCJYC. The format includes fleet, team and match races as agreed upon by the flag officers of both clubs; the trophy awarded to the club winning the most series. The winning club shall have its burgee affixed to the frame with the year of its victory. That club may then hang the trophy in its clubhouse for the rest of the season.
This trophy is fondly presented by J. Wooderson Glenn III. It was created with the kind assistance of Maryellen W. Mooney. His son Philip, the TR Society and the Senior Club provided the photos.

Stratford Shoal Race - August 29
Oral tradition is clear that this race was born during a Saturday night dance when a discourse took place in the Men’s Bar as to the relative speed of Seawanhaka’s S Boats contrasted with the new Victory Class. C. Sherman Hoyt upholding the merits of S Boat’s thereupon challenged the Victory protagonist to a match race around Stratford Shoal light and return with the start to take place upon the spot. The concept caught on and formal Stratford Shoal night races have been run more or less annually since. The first of these took place in 1920 on a clear night in the fall with fifteen starters. It was won by Pompano, a Fish Class boat sailed by Charles G. West Jr. Until comparatively recently it was open to all corners especially Club one-designs.
This is a qualifier for YRA of LIS PHRF Trophies & the Stratford Shoal Lighthouse Trophy. Guest moorings available on a first come, first served basis (516) 922-6305 for details & reservations.
